Nestled within the lush expanse of the Perth Hills lie some of Perth’s best cider houses. From quaint rustic sheds to chic urban venues, sampling the diverse array of ciders makes for a great way to spend a sunny weekend.
A short 30-minute drive from the bustling Perth CBD, immersing yourself in a day of cider sampling and tucking into local cuisine amid the picturesque landscapes of the Perth Hills is one of the best day trip experiences.
Read on to uncover the best spots for cider in Perth in this ultimate Cider House Perth guide.
When to Visit Perth Cider Houses
You can visit these cideries all year round. There is generally outside and indoor seating options available at all these Perth cider houses.
This winter in Perth we visited most of these over the course of a few weekends. There is something very cosy about being snuggled up inside with a log fire roaring, whilst having a hearty meal and cider or even a warmed mulled cider.
The orchards that you will see at some of the cideries are also very scenic – come at spring time for an Instagrammable view of the fruit trees in blossom in spring or in autumn for those vibrant red and orange hues.
How to Get To the Perth Hills Cider Spots
A car is required to reach the Perth cider spots, so driving or getting an Uber / Taxi is your best option.
You could also catch a train to Armadale and taxi from there.
Core Cider House, Pickering Brook
Core Cider House is an 80 year old orchard that has been run by four generations of the same family. Located in the scenic Perth Hills suburb of Pickering Brook, Core Cider House has a Bistro, Cellar Door and Garden Bar.
Head to the Bistro (bookings recommended) for a 2 or 3 course meal. For a more casual option, bring your picnic rug and sit out on the lawn in front of the outside bar with a more casual dining menu available (pizza, chips etc).
Core Cider House have now opened the Harvest Room cellar door, which features a beautiful patio overlooking the orchard where you can work your way through the tasting paddles.
Keep an eye out on their Facebook page as they have live music sessions on the weekend, and usually run special events on the school holidays like an orchard tour on a tractor.
For cider options, the best way to try their range is through a tasting paddle. The cider line up includes sparkling cider, a berry cider and my personal favourite, the ginger cider.
Open: Wednesday to Sunday 11-4pm (hours may vary seasonally)
Carmel Cider Co, Carmel
Down the road from Core you will find the quirky Carmel Cider Co. This Perth cidery is family owned and run by the third generation orchardists.
A more casual option, the cellar door is a rustic shed lined with crates and barrels. Pull up a stool at the crates turned tables and try some of the delicious ciders on options. The tasting paddle is again a great option to taste the range of ciders available.
Carmel Cider focus on producing cider in the “Methode Traditionalle” way, and have a variety of Champagne style ciders available for sale. They also sell Appletini cocktails made with their own apple spirit, apple juice and even red wine from their own vineyard.
My favourite was the Rose apple cider, a dry crisp cider with a hint of sweetness and pink hue.
Open: Weekends 11-4pm (closed over Xmas & New Years)
Naked Apple Cider, Karragullen
One of the newer Cider Houses in the Perth Hills, Naked Apple is set on 6 hectares of gardens and native bushland. The venue has four main areas – the inside restaurant, the undercover deck, the open courtyard and the gardens.
Visiting on a sunny winter’s day, we sat in the courtyard for lunch and cider tasting.
The name of the cider house comes from the fact that they don’t add anything to the cider that isn’t found naturally in an apple. They even rely on the wild yeast from their apple skins to ferment the cider.
They have a large range of ciders, starting from Cloudy Apple cider, to Pear Cider to an Apple and Pineapple Cider. Again, I’d recommend a tasting paddle so you can try the full range.
Open: Wednesday – Sunday (check their website for up to date opening hours)
Roleystone Brewing Co. (located in Raeburn Orchards)
Another newer cider option to Perth and the Perth Hills is Roleystone Brewing Co, launched in 2018. Originally inspired by an oversupply of apples is today a 100% natural crisp apple cider with a current range of three ciders.
The line up includes the Original apple cider, a semi sweet pear cider and my favourite, the Ginger cider. The newest addition is a pink rose cider, which I’m yet to try!
The cellar door is located within Raeburn Orchard.
The unique thing about this cellar door is that the bar moves around the orchard to suit the season. In warmer months, you’ll likely find the bar located in the paddock outside or in the packing shed. During winter (when we visited), it is usually set up within the fruit shop.
There is a small cafe in the fruit shop too with some lighter food options. You can have a free tasting of the cider range, before deciding which ciders to takeaway in cans or refillable Growler (2L) or Squealers (1L).
Open: Monday & Thursday 9am-5pm, Weekends 11am-2pm (check their Facebook page before visiting for up to date opening hours)
Funk Cider & funk 2.0, Swan Valley
Next up is Funk Cider, the only Perth cidery listed here not located in the Perth Hills. This Perth cider house is located in the Swan Valley, about 30 minutes from the Perth CBD.
Funk prides itself for their new world take on craft cider. The cider line up features a range of ciders that are “out of the ordinary.”
The Funk Cider House in Caversham is a popular spot on weekends, with a pub focussed menu to complement the large range of ciders available. They usually have two different tasting paddle options to allow you to explore the range of ciders on offer to different tastes.
In the last year the team behind Funk have opened funk 2.0, a casual brewshed a short drive from the original venue.
Open: Thursday – Sunday (check their website for up to date opening hours)
Final Thoughts – Cidery Perth Hills
What I love about all the Perth Cider spots is how they are all quite different in their range of ciders and venue offerings. After visiting them all over a few weeks here are my thoughts.
- Most Interesting Range of Ciders: Funk Cider
- Most Family Friendly Cider House: Core Cider House
- Best Food: Core Cider House
- Most Unique Cellar Door: Carmel Cider Co & Roleystone Brewing Co
Out of the line up, my personal favourite was the Rose cider from Carmel Cider Co. The Ginger Cider at Roleystone Brewing Co was a close runner up!

Which of these cider houses is it possible/best to take a furry friend dog to?
Core Cider doesn’t allow dogs but last time I went, Naked Apple did! Best to confirm before your visit just in case things have changed though 🙂
